Since the first meeting in 1978 (Rehovot, Israel), scientists around the world have regularly come together to share their interest in physiology, biodiversity, ecology or the genetics of salt-loving organisms or ‘halophiles’. Following this 40-year tradition, and on behalf of the Scientific Advisory Board and Organizing Committee, we invite you to the 12th Conference on Halophilic Microorganisms “Halophiles 2019” in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from June 24 to 28, 2019 (http://www.halophiles.eu). Cluj-Napoca is the historical capital of the Transylvania province, one of the largest Romanian cities, and has a long-established and vibrant culture of academia. Moreover, ancient halite deposits have been mined in Transylvania for several millennia, so, many ancient salt mines and hypersaline lakes are located in the vicinity.
At the ‘Halophiles 2019’ meeting, the oral and poster sessions will traverse Taxonomy, Biodiversity, Biophysics, Ecology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Genomics, Biotechnology, and other fields. There will also be a joint meeting of the ICSP Subcommittees on ‘Taxonomy of Halobacteria’ and ‘Taxonomy of Halomonadaceae’. We warmly invite you to join us in June 2019, and very much look forward to welcoming you to the Cluj-Napoca meeting!
